Leadership is influencing others towards achieving certain objectives. A leader will inspire others to achieve the specified organization goals. A leader has a role to direct, inspire, facilitate, and influence a certain group of people towards the intended direction. Dark leadership is associated with totalitarian leadership. Dark leaders take exaggerated behaviors; they desire heroic recognition, accept no blame and have high need for visibility. They do not create new leaders and feel that it is only their opinions which should be followed. They are not ready to accept objections. (Kippenberger 2002; Journal of World Business 1998).
Such leaders are likely to face a number of forces that will bring down. Dark leaders usually do not honor human rights. They are totalitarian and will be ready to mistreat their adversaries. Such acts are faced by human rights movement against the dark leaders. Demonstration against them, demanding them to step down will be organized by human right activists. Non governmental organizations will also call for stepping down of such leaders. The political actors will also take a share in this struggle to ensure such leaders cease to continue leading. These are external forces. Dark leaders are also likely to face internal forces that will consequently bring them down. In a business, employees will not tolerate such leaders. They will instead call for strike and demand that such leaders should be fired from the organization. Employees may decide to boycott operations of the organization, or reduce their level of commitment so as to ensure low performance of an organization. Poor performance of an organization will be associated with the ‘dark leader’. Soon such leader will be brought down. Such forces are usually employed against the dark leaders who are autocratic and not ready to embrace views from other stakeholders. (Lussier & Achua 2009; Kippenberger 2002).
