The discovery of gunpowder has had a lot of impact in the world. Although it has helped societies to grow and industrialize, it has had destructive forces that has led to the evolution of a new military age. We all know that it is within our basic rights to defend ourselves against any kind of danger using weapons. This latter has on many occasions been abused on the way the human race uses it. We all know that we have criminals in our society who do not care about their fellow human beings. These people use guns whenever they want to commit a crime such as robbery and rape. Worse still, they may end up killing people to get whatever they want. Some violet weak people have turned to the use of guns as an equalizer of their strong opponents. More often than not, they will end up killing their opponents whenever there arise a small disagreement in the name of self defense. The use of guns has made people to take the law into their own hands in a small matter that can be solved amicably. Terrorism has become a major concern in the world today. Terrorists have become a source of oppression and abuse to our human right. In Moscow, a truck was found to be loaded with carbon and ingredients meant to make gun powder (discovered between september15 and October,1999).It had 8,483 kg of illegal explosives. Later, it was discovered the the substances could have exploded and killed a lot of people.

The rise of nation-state and its imperialistic and modernization ambition as a result of gunpowder technology has led to tens of millions people perish from diseases, starvation, slave labor and murder. This technology has led to nation-states embarking upon lethal projects of social engineering that are intended to eliminate a group of people or a certain community. There has been state victimization of small communities, insurgency movements  and rise in ethnonationalist conflicts that has led to state terror and genocide. Values of societies have greatly been assumed while others have felt that their own societal values are more legitimate, superior or universal than other peoples. Modern technology has led to acts that are intended to destroy, national, ethnically, or religious groups. This is done through killing members of a group causing bodily or mental harm to members of a group, or forcibly transferring children from one group to another.

The use  of gun powder has lead to the proliferation of fire arms in the society. This increases the number of criminals who can not watch other people develop. The police unit usually spends a lot of time in trying to encounter the rate of crime in a country. In the process they end up endangering their own lives because criminals would always try to protect themselves whenever they have been cornered. On the other end, the police are on record of torturing and unlawful killings because of the fire arms that they are entrusted with. They tend to mistreat vulnerable groups such as women and children whom should rather receive special attention. Because of this, people will  fear leaving their homes to earn a living, go to school or to look for other important social amenities. This is a violation of human basic right and it reduces the rate of development of any country.

In extreme cases, governments use corrupt police Chiefs to target or maybe kill political activists, suppress peaceful protests that the government may feel uncomfortable with. In counties such as Zimbabwe, the proliferation of fire arms has brought civil war and increased violent crimes. The end result of this has been loss of lives and the government now under pressure to curb crime. On the same note the economic conditions have been severe to an extent that it will take the government a lot of years to build it.
