Research in Organizational and Team Dynamics

An organization is a place where all factors of production are coordinated and integrated; they include human resources, materials, machines, as well as the management with the main aim of meeting the organizational objectives. This process is always continuous and changes with time. Organizational Dynamics are always evident in every organization and focuses on problematic behaviors, conflicts, challenges, communication, concerns that pertain to change and team dynamics which are difficult to handle. Staff and leadership issues that interfere with an individual’s productivity and organizational goals also form part of organizational dynamics. Organizational dynamics may also refer to changes that are evolutionary in nature and take place within the organization which is always in response to influences that are external in nature. They may include organizational lifecycle, changes in the strategic plan, market forces, work trend changes and workplace reform. It’s always important to recognize organizational dynamics especially in terms of the impact they have on the career development path of a client and take a corrective action in a good time before adverse effects occur within the organization. Team dynamics which are unforeseen forces which operate in groups or different people who form teams. These form of dynamics normally found in organizations  strongly influence how the team reacts, performs or behaves hence these effects which are either positive or negative are complex in nature affects the team in one way or the other. For instance if there is a team of ten people working together and among them three of the members are enemies, the enmity is a natural force and is likely to have effects to the rest of the team members where by the three members who are enemies are likely to cause conflicts in decision making processes. There are chances that those who are enemies would look down upon one another and as a result suggestions made by the particular individual are likely to be ignored even if they were good and could have been of great impact to the running of the organization.

Forms of communication used in an organization can be a source of team dynamics. An organization that does not put emphasis on formal methods of communication which should either be vertical, diagonal or horizontal communication but instead prefers the informal ways is likely to suffer from negative team dynamics. An organization in which grape vine is allowed gossips and rumors are likely to spread within the organization. If the gossips are false in natures the affected members may feel demoralized and uncomfortable to work with the group further mostly if the gossips or rumors were not good. Communication barriers such as language, time, and failure to listen and wrong choice of word also have adverse effects to teams. Where there are communication barriers the team members are likely to fail to understand one another hence there may be difficulties in making some important decisions that concern the team.

Team dynamics within an organization should be recognized so as to put more emphasis on the positive ones which can lead to improvement within the organization and on the other side avoid the negative ones that can affect the organization negatively. In order to recognize team dynamics there is a need to consider the forces that are within the team and are likely to influence the behavior of the team …
