Unit 1 examines research on the many categories of reality TV programs and why people watch certain programs.
Select 1 reality TV show that you regularly watch. Using concepts from your intellipath® lessons (What is Reality Television? Why We Watch Reality TV, and Reality TV is Useful), respond to the following:
Indicate what category of reality TV the show falls under.
Describe what a typical viewing session is like for you.
Reflect on the motivation or need that this program fulfills for you.
If you do not watch a reality TV show regularly, then discuss your motivation for watching another type of TV programming or other media content and why you don’t think reality TV can fulfill that motivation.
In reading your classmates’ posts, you might notice the following:
The two of you share motivations, though you watch different programs. You could comment on the similar motivations despite differences in the viewing experience.
The two of you express different motivations for watching the same program. You could discuss how the same show can fulfill multiple needs.
